Avoid saying Clichés and false hopes. Statements that will only give them false reassurance can only worsen the situation. Clichés is another form of false hopes. This type of statement will only avoid the chances for the patient to express their thoughts, thus they will only believe that they have no more place in this world.

Avoid close-ended questions. Close-ended questions are statements that can be answered by yes or no. This is not therapeutic in dealing with person after Diagnosing Depression. The most important thing to deal with this people is to identify the things that let them worries. It is our obligation to determine the main reason of their situation. Ideally, we ask simple but open questions that will require them to express their ideas and reactions toward the issue.

Never belittle the feelings of the person. Belittling is not therapeutic to the patients who are diagnosed to have depression. If we underestimate the situation of depressed people, tendency is they will never talk again. People like this will treat simple problem as big enough that caused them to end their life. It may be simple to others but for those people, it is a very big issue. Therefore, belittling of the patient’s feelings is not advisable.

Avoid giving advices as much as possible. Giving advice to depressed people is not ideal. There are advices that are not effective to the situation of the patient and once the patient followed your suggestion, and in yet it will only turn out into nothing, the blame will be put on the person who gave advice. Therefore, we should provide option instead of giving direct advice. Providing option and allowing them to choose will provide them the feeling of being in authority to themselves and at the same time we are being safe with the situation.
