Your environment and the events taking place around you play a role in depression. Your thoughts and emotions are transmitted through your brain by the neurotransmitters. The more stressful a situation is, the more your brain chemistry may be stimulated to react, which may cause an imbalance of brain chemistry, which in turn brings on depression.
Though the causes of depression are not entirely known, there is much information being discovered through research. People diagnosed with depression, who are taking medication for it, need to be as faithful to take their antidepressant as they are to take their blood pressure pills, and other important medications. Most people who take their medications, and live a healthy lifestyle often begin to feel better in just a few weeks. Those who can get a little bit of exercise each day can also help improve how they feel, because exercise, such as walking stimulates endorphins, which help you feel better.
